Greene Street with Envy: A Bold New Look For A Century-Old Snook

After extensive restoration, the landmark residential building at 10 Greene Street, built by John B. Snook, is unveiling three beautifully finished lofts and one spectacular penthouse on the building’s 150th anniversary.

The building is part of the neighborhood’s SoHo Cast-Iron District, a historically protected landmark site designated by the New York City Landmark Preservation Committee in 1973. Built in the mid-18th century during an architectural renaissance, this building is not only the earliest cast-iron building on Greene Street, it is part of the world’s largest collection of preserved cast iron commercial and residential buildings.

The five-story property, originally built in 1869, was acquired by Javeri Capital for $14.45M in 2014 and was later approved by the Landmark Preservation Committee for residential conversion and restoration, as well as the construction of one additional story plus mezzanine. In partnership with development firm Javeri Capital, Douglas Elliman’s Eklund|Gomes Team called on their go-to design team, Interior Marketing Group (IMG), to prepare the model unit for sale.

The extensive restoration process included a complete, million-dollar revival of the exterior cast-iron facade, the existing window structures, and the brick masonry. The historical architecture, including Tuscan-style columns, was maintained in conjunction with the modern interior improvements. The 2,437 sq ft interior of the 2nd story, full-floor loft features 2-bedrooms, 3 baths, all new infrastructure, 5’’ white oak floors, 13 ft ceilings, an eco-smart fireplace, and direct, keyed access to the building’s brand new elevator.

The unit’s interior decor, furnishings and art, were designed by luxury design and real estate marketing firm, Interior Marketing Group who infused eccentric elements, contemporary furnishings, and tasteful accessories. The team created a bold new look that seamlessly adds personality to the century-old space, while simultaneously honoring the property’s historic architecture. Throughout the downtown residence, the contemporary design defies the standards of typical ‘staging,’ by maximizing space and functionality without compromising style and creativity. The design blends cool grays with pops of gold, white, and scarlet while also featuring striking, original artwork created by IMG’s in-house team.
